There is a prince name h160(x4) who has joined their kingdom. manufactured by AirBus, The purpose of this chopper is to use it as a medium utility helicopter. He was exposed in front of the people in a heli – expo in Orlando, Florida on March 3rd, 2015 the entry of this new effortlessly elegant prince made AS365 and Ec155 aside. His first-hop towards the sky was on 13 June 2015. The total cost for the development was around 1.12billion US $. When we are heading towards his superpowers or specifications He has a BLUE Edge active tracking rotor blades. Now u guys will be thing what the hell is this. This sounds a bit different ha...?
That is the variations in the rotor blade design, Normally conventional rotor blades are parallel to each other and it produces a lot of noise, the strong BVI NOISE But when it comes to the blue edge blades it reduces the BVI noise by their double swept design reduces the typical blade vortex interaction noise. Because this produces s short parallel interaction high impulsive noise domain is eliminated' this noise reduction reduces up to 3 to 4 dB the airbus demands it is a safer and simple noise reduction method for landing in a populated area.

When we zoom into the design, the tail of h160 showing a biplane stabilizer canted fenestron and rotor tip A fenestron is a protected tail rotor of the helicopter operating like a ducted fan. The feneston is different from a conventional tail rotor.
source: internet
The function of the fenestron is to counteract the torque of the main rotor. The difference between these both is the conventional tail rotor typically has two to four blades while the fenestron has between 8 to 18 blades. By replacing the fan with a duct several distinct advantages over a conventional tail rotor. Let look at why the fenestron is better and the conventional rotors. First, it reduces the tip vortex losses. ( the circulation pattern of rotating air left behind a blade as it generates life.
It also reduces the noise than the conventional blades. This outer covering protects the tail rotor from collision damage and ground personnel from the hazard posed by a traditional spinning rotor It reduces the vibration due to the enclosure of the blade tips and a great number of blades. It decreases the power during cruise flight They are lighter and smaller compared to the conversation counterparts It reduces the foreign object damage( because the outer covering makes less likely to such in a loose objects such as small rocks. This reduces the pilot workload by enhancing anti-torque control efficiency. This FOD( Foreign object damage) is any substance, alien to an aircraft which could potentially cause damage. There are basically two types of FOD like external FOD and internal FOD.
source: internetExternal FOD is hazards including the bird strike, hail, ice sandstorm, ash cloud, etc....... Internal FOD is the item left in the cockpit that interferes with flight safety by getting tangled in control cables which may jam those moving parts or it may shortcut the electrical connection.
When we look at the disadvantages of the fenestron, it increases the weight. High construction and Purchasing cost is but expensive S10 NOTAR... NOTAR IS an acronym for NO TAIL ROTOR.
source: internetIt is a helicopter system which uses a fan inside the tail boom to build a high volume of low-pressure air which exits through two slots and creates a boundary layer flow of air along with the tail boom which changes the direction of airflow around the tailboom creating thrust opposite the motion imparted to the fuselage by the torque effect of the main rotor.
The first fight was made about 20hours and it was done without the autopilot mode but controlling the chopper was deemed easy,.. The biplane stabilizer was performing as expected. Even the fenestron shrouded tail rotor is working even better and working with slightly less power than calculated the conventional hydraulic landing gears and brakes were replaced with electrical counterparts. This was the 2st chipper in the world to do so...... (Electrical parts).
source: internetAirbus believed that changing the hydraulic system may even reduce weight. Yeah...! Even that’s true....... Due to the blue edge five-bladed blade design, it increased the payload by 100kg.when compared with the Eurocopter AS365 which comes with the Dauphin rotor engine design.
Another important thing about this chopper is stability so for that we have to thank the biplane tailplane stabilizers for the great low-speed stability and when u combined the canted fenestron which produces an extra lift of around 80kg... So the H160 is the civilian chopper for the 1s time to come up with a canted fenestron anti-torque tail rotor.
He is powered by two Turbomeca ARRANO turboshaft engines. So the Safran ARRANO is the 1to2 single-engine or 4 to 6-ton twin-engine for choppers. They produce a thrust of 1,100-1, 300 hp. These engines are made in France..... The 1st run was in Feb 2014... The design mantra of the engine was to reduce the specific fuel consumption by 10 to15% compared to the previous engine. Which contributes to the payload performance. The thermodynamic cycle is improved by a variable pitch.
Let’s see from a pilot view... 1st of all to be frank it gives huge visibility. The cockpit is made of glass and it gives the right information at right time. Lowers the workload. High situational awareness.
If there is any problem with the engine the chopper itself will automatically shutdown. That means the pilot doesn’t need to worry much. So that shows the chopper is safer from every point.
As I mention above the chopper is very stable in any conditions even if the pilot is surprised by anything or when he puts high pressure on the controls the attitude of the chopper remains very stable and it stays under the track. the pilot gets alerted when there is an engine failure. The pilot says there is no worries to fly an h160.
The h160 is featured with heliox avionics suits the cockpit of size 15×20cm multifunctional display. Airbus also collaborates with Esterline CMC to develop a portion of the avionics such as the CMA-9000 flight management system and the CMA -5024 GPS landing system sensor to automate the lending process.
